Digital Macro Close-up Photography

Through a macro or close-focusing lens, the world around you will appear very different. In close-up, you begin to see and appreciate the design and beauty of miniature things. At magnifi cation, you can reveal exquisite detail and highlight your subject’s true shape, form and colour. Close-up photography will completely change your perspective and give you a fresh appreciation for all things small. I’m often asked why I began shooting close-ups. I have always been fascinated by nature, so when I got my fi rst camera, aged eight or nine, I instinctively wanted to photograph wildlife. Since I couldn’t afford long, costly telephoto lenses, birds and mammals were out of my reach. A family friend gave me a cheap, close-up fi lter to try. For the fi rst time, I was able to shoot frame-fi lling photographs of wildlife and capture the dragonfl ies, butterfl ies and plantlife near my home. I was quickly hooked on macro and close-up photography.
